Job Search Tips

Create a Great Resume:

  • Be honest about your experience, list your skills and qualities in a positive manner.
  • List previous experience, and provide references with their permission.
  • Double check your spelling—and then have someone else proofread your resume. Be sure your contact information is easy to find and is accurate.
  •  Present Yourself As a Great Employee:

  • Bring a clean resume to the store in person, and ask to present it to the manager.
  • Employers note small things: chipped nail polish, piercings, poor posture. You will represent their store; look your best.
  • Offer a friendly handshake when you are introduced, and repeat the manager’s name to help you remember it! She/he may be your new boss.
  •  Prepare for a Great Interview:

  • Be yourself: be friendly and respond to questions with more than one or two word answers. Most retail jobs require employees to interact with lots of different kinds of customers, so show you can talk with people you don’t know.
  • Know about the store, and be ready to talk about it.
  • Don’t fidget if you’re nervous. Think before you answer a question, and be honest if you don’t know how to answer.
  • At the end of the interview, shake hands and thank the Manager for the opportunity. Ask what the next steps will be and when you can expect a call.
